Cover illustrates Gaskell's Bryant & Stratton New Hampshire Business College in black with red lettering. Contains original correspondence on illustrated letterhead for Gaskell's Complete Compendium of Elegant Writing. Attractive. SOLD

OCT 28 postmark, on intact Donnell Manufacturing Co. corner advertising envelope with wonderful full back illustrated promotion for 1878 St. Louis Exposition (Sept. 9-Oct. 12) and St. Louis Fair (Oct. 7-Oct. 12). The back pictures a Lion and an Elephant at to Zoological Garden, along with exposition buildings (Mechanical Hall, Art Hall and House of Public Comfort) and declares "Reduced Fare" on all railroads and steamboats. Very attractive exposition advertising cover. SOLD

The sisters performed as a singing group, including with Barnum and Bailey Circus as a sideshow, having appeared before royalty, as is pictured in the cover illustration. In particular, the sisters were noted for their combined flowing 37½ feet of long, flowing hair. It was this feature that made their fortune. Henry Bailey, husband of sister Naomi and nephew of the circus magnate, saw opportunity there and and began selling a line of hair products, the best known being "The Seven Sutherland Sisters Hair Grower". $125

Divver, Wholesale and Retail Dealer in CONFEDERATE MONEY, STAMPS and CURIOSITIES". A very attractive and interesting early stamp and collectibles dealer cover. Accompanying this item is a short September 20, 1972 article from National Stamp News by Herman Herst, Jr. discussing the cover. $50
j0134 #319, fine, faults, tied by HAILEY, IDAHO MAY 15 1908 postmark on intact multicolor advertisement for Alturas Hotel, Hailey. Cover edge wear. The cover offers a beautiful picture of a trout jumping out of a rocky stream after a fisherman's fly. The cover reverse promotes the town of Hailey, including, "One of the best trout fishing streams in the world within five blocks of the hotel." A terrific fishing topic cover. SOLD

Reverse bears a VF strike of blue oval "CALIFORNIA MILITARY ACADEMY OCT 16 1878 OAKLAND, CAL." hand stamp. $45
j0080 #213, fine, on XF, essentially intact (small part of flap missing) all-over green illustrated shaded advertising cover for Dr. Kilmer & Co., Binghampton N.Y., JAN 18 1888 postmark. Cover shows Dr. Kilmer and Standard Herbal Remedies medicine bottles. The cover also contains a wonderful, 2-sided illustrated flyer. Its front shows an advertising sign for "Dr. Kilmer's Swamp Root, the Great Kidney Specific" along with images of "Hiawatha Island, Dr. Kilmer & Co.'s Stock Farm and Summer Home". The back displays music and lyrics for "MUSICA-MEDICUS, SONG AND CHORUS." A similar 1885 cover without content, bearing a #210, both stamp and cover described with small faults, realized $1500 hammer price in the APS 2024 GASS auction. An absolutely magnificent medical advertising cover. SOLD

MAR 13 postmark on VF intact (flap tears) drop rate cover with all over advertisement for Joseph Osborn, Chemist & Druggist, picturing at left the chemist serving a customer. Contains the original 1873 customer bill from Osborn's "Family and Dispensing Druggist". A very nice medical advertising cover. $75

A terrific medical advertising cover. $95
j0083 #158, fine, perf toning at right, tied by an XF strike of scarce 11-bar numeral 6 ellipse (used for just 3 months in 1877) and NEW YORK SEP 3 postmark on VF intact (small sealed tear at top) all over green advertising envelope for RADWAY & CO., for "READY RELIEF" "RENOVATING RESOLVENT" "REGULATING PILLS". An advertisement apparently for the treatment of constipation. A wonderful medical advertisement cover. $95
j0073 #158, VF sound SE stamp, black cork killer, with XF TWIN MOUNTAIN HOUSE N.H. AUG 24 1877 simpex postmark (located in Twin Mountain, Coos County, 1869-, the hotel's post office not listed in Helbock) on illustrated Twin Mountain House, White Mountains, N.H. hotel advertising cover, tiny edge faults, neatly opened at left. Twin Mountain House was a grand hotel in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire that was built in 1868 and torn down in 1960. Apparently the hotel had its own postmark for mail service from the hotel, obviously quite a scarce New Hampshire marking. SOLD
