I am pleased and honored to offer a selection of late 19th century covers from the
collection of Dr. James Milgram. Jim is a highly regarded postal
historian, the author of numerous books and articles on 19th century
United States postal history, and has built important collections of
this material.
While Jim's principal collecting interests have centered on early U.S.
and Civil War postal history, he has always demonstrated a keen eye for
interesting cancellations, postal markings and postal usages for the
entirety of the 19th century. Please click the link below to view the

Into the former I have copied all currently offered registered mail covers; new
covers will be added as they become available. The latter contains all new covers
organized by the numbering system used by Dr. James Milgram in his book
Vessel Name Markings on United States Inland and Ocean Waterways 1810-1890.
They are further divided into separate pages for stamped, stampless, and

Milgram collection. Many of those offered are illustrated in his book.
