9903 SFL, WYSOX PA manuscript Dec 16 [1832] postmark (Bradford County 1804-) and 18¾ rate mark, sent to Granby MA (Hampshire County 1822-) where its manuscript "Advertised Jany. 1" was applied. A very early ADVERTISED marking, not listed by Milgram (USPCS Chronicle 228). $35
9900 Stampless envelope, VF and intact, postmarked "BUFFALO N.Y MAY 29 / 10" internal rate with matching blue PAID, sent to Middletown CT where it received its blue "Advertised" hand stamp, listed by Milgram (USPCS Chronicle 228). $40
9899 Stampless envelope, ca. 1850's AMENIA NY APR 15 [no year date] postmark (Duchess County 1807-) and "5" rate stamp, intact cover, sent to Worcester MA where it received its "Adv. 1 Ct." hand stamp, not listed by Milgram (USPCS Chronicle 228). $30
9914 #210, fine, SE, DEC 3 1886 Belleville IL postmark on essentially intact cover to St. Louis MO, St. Louis receiver on reverse.  The cover bears a #J15 precanceled by 3 vertical bars (type Hoover A) for paying the 1¢ advertising fee.  There is a bold, 3-line purple "ADVERTISED / NOT CALLED FOR / Cannot be Found" and "DEC 11 1886" date stamp on front.  The reverse bears a purple "Post Office St. Louis, Mo. INQUIRY DIVISION JAN 8 1887" double ring hand stamp and January Washington DC DEAD LETTER OFFICE triangle.  Carrier pencil notations regarding delivery failure also on back, with a letter "A" on front representing the recipient's last name initial used for recording the cover at the DLO. 9897 #26, top and bottom perfs trimmed, VF WEST HAMPTON MS. FEB 4 1860 postmark (DPO Hampshire County 1825-1919, R5 scarcity) ties on cover 1cm reduced at left to Springfield MA.  Cover advertised, superb "Adv. 1 Ct." and "FEB 15" hand stamps (unlisted in Milgram, "Undeliverable Mail: "ADVERTISED' Markings Used During the 1851-57 Stamp Period", USPSC Chronicle 231, 2011, Vol. 63, No. 3). $40
9896 #25, fine, blunted bottom perfs, canceled by NEW HAVEN Con. MAY 30 1859 postmark on intact cover to Springfield MA.  Cover advertised, receiving a VF "ADV, 1c" hand stamp (listed on plate 3 in Milgram, "Undeliverable Mail: "ADVERTISED' Markings Used During the 1851-57 Stamp Period", USPSC Chronicle 231, 2011, Vol. 63, No. 3). $40
9680 #11, sound, margins clear to touching, MOUNT PLEASANT O. JUN 18 postmark ties to VF intact cover to NEWPORT RI where struck by its large red "ADVERTISED 1ct.", a rare, striking advertised handstamp. Ex Milgram, not listed in his USPCS Chronicle 231 article on advertised mail 1851-57. SOLD
9677 #11A, fine, sound, 7-bar grid killer and COLUMBIA PA. MAY 8 postmark on essentially intact buff cover to NIAGRA FALLS N.Y. with a superb strike of its unusual, abbreviated "ADv." and "MAY 15", 2 blue advertised hand stamps. Ex Milgram, the listing copy used for his USPCS Chronicle 231 article on advertised mail 1851-57, illustrated p. 219 plate 2.  The cover was also illustrated in an earlier Milgram Chronicle 228 article, p. 317. 80
9616 #U10 intact entire with XF blue EVANSVILLE, IND DEC 29 postmark to Dubuke [sic.], Iowa where a VF straight line ADVERTISED hand stamp was applied to the cover, apparently successfully. Cover neatly opened at right. $25
9457 #65, VF, tiny faults, tied by MANCHESTER NH DEC 15 64 postmark and target killer on VF essentially intact cover to Providence, RI, nice strike large red double ring PROVIDENCE R.I. ADVERTISED DEC 31 auxiliary postmark, scarce.  This marking is not listed in Milgram, "UNDELIVERABLE MAIL: “ADVERTISED” MARKINGS FROM THE 1860s", USPCS Chronicle 2012, Vol. 64 No. 1 Whole 233. $50
8278 #114, fine, sound, tied on VF intact cover by VF+ strike of unlisted shamrock killer of NEW YORK CITY, NOV 3 postmark, to Richmond, VA (NOV 4 receiver on reverse).  The cover bears a 2-line Richmond auxiliary hand stamp, “HAVE YOUR LETTERS DIRECTED TO YOUR STREET AND NUMBER”. Extremely scarce fancy killer on a very nice cover with additional markings. SOLD
8060 #J15 fine, sound 1¢ due, target cancel or precancel, not tied, on VF intact cover with fine #220, HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y, JUN 6 postmark, to Freeport, IL.  There is a purple "JUN 20 1891 / Advertised. Due 1ct" hand stamp with and "UNCLAIMED", the J15 paying advertised fee.  JUN 7, 1891 Freeport receiver and and Freeport, JUL 6, 1891 postmark on reverse.  Pretty usage. $75

8061 #J22, fine, sound 1¢ due with blue ruled crayon precancel, on unreduced cover with pair of 10pf German coat of arms stamps canceled Bornum paying the single UPU rate to Pittsburgh, PA.  Red "PITTSBURGH, PA. / AUG 25 1893 / General Delivery No. 3", and purple "Unclaimed / NON-RÉCLAMÉ". The J22 apparently pays an ADVERTISED fee.  The cover back is missing its back flap affecting some markings.  There is a Pittsburgh 23 AUG 1893 receiver and what appears to be a light Pittsburgh 28 AUG 1893 ADVERTISED marking. $45
7677 #73, lower left corner fault, SAINT LOUIS, MO local cover, fancy leaf killer, partial strike of “MAY 20 ADVERTISED” plus an XF strike of very scarce oval "HAVE YOUR LETTERS DIRECTED TO YOUR STREET & NUMBER". This intact cover was then forwarded to Lockhaven Station, Westmoreland Co., Penna. A very nice Blackjack use despite the stamp fault. SOLD
7457 #220, fine, sound, SPRINGFIELD, MASS., OCT 29, 92 postmark and ellipse on cover to Concord, NH, where it was stamped ADVERTISED, NOV 14, 1892. Cover bears #J22 twice struck by CONCORD, NOV 22, 1892 postmark, paying the advertising fee. $30
6980 #147, scissor separated at left and bottom, lightly tied by FEB 26 (1872) Boston postmark on promissory note to Bangor, ME, VF MAR 16 ADVERTISED hand stamp applied in Bangor. Quality auxiliary marking. $15
