New York Foreign Mail (NYFM) Cancellations & Covers (#3)

Item # Description Price Picture
9736 #UX1, VF with fine, sound #156 paying the postal card rate to Germany. Card canceled by a fine strike of NYFM circular geometric fancy killer (Weiss GE-C4a) & red SEPT 25 [1875] exchange office postmark, via NGL "Oder".  Unlisted in Weiss census. $125
9735 #159, fine, with VF+ SOTN NYFM geometric fancy killer (Weiss ST-8P6) paying the treaty rate to England, red DEC 12 exchange postmark & London 23 DE 74 receiver, carried on White Star Line's "Oceanic". Intact cover.  Unlisted in Weiss census. SOLD
9759 #179, F+, sound, canceled by an XF-superb SOTN strike of NYFM outline star killer in circle (Weiss ST-8P3) that neatly frames Taylor's portrait. Nice eye appeal. SOLD
9760 #148, fine, sound, bearing an XF SOTN strike of rare NYFM letter "H" in circle killer (Weiss RE-L3) with partial red exchange office postmark. An exceptional item, almost impossible to find this well struck.  Only two covers known bearing this rare NYFM killer (Kirke designated 73-01-09-PIC). SOLD
9761 #148, VF-XF, sound, canceled by an XF-superb strike of NYFM narrow SE wedge killer (Weiss TR-S3), this example clearly representing the central "dot" puncture produced by the nail holding the killer to the hand stamp. Scarce. $35
9763 #148, fine, sound, canceled by a VF-XF SOTN strike of NYFM 8 point solid star with hollow center killer (Weiss ST-8P1), this being the earlier of the two versions and only found on NBC issues and most frequently struck in red. $45
9764 #159, F-VF, sound, canceled by a superb SOTN strike of rare NYFM geometric killer (Weiss GE-C9a), especially rare struck in red and and with all features so clear. A WOW NYFM fancy cancel. Weiss also illustrated 3¢ Banknote issue stamp struck in red.  In May 2016 I wrote an article for the USCC regarding the first ever reported on-cover example of this killer, found on a locally mailed private mailing card and most likely canceled in the circular mail department of the NYC main post office.  However, as noted in this article, it is still likely that this killer saw use on foreign destination mail given its recorded strike in red, such as this. $175
9689 #159, XF sound copy canceled by an XF strike of NYFM letter "N" in circle (Kirke 74-05-02-PIC, Weiss extended designation RE-L5), first identified USCC NEWS August 2007. Rare on or off cover, only three covers reported to date. Gorgeous stamp. SOLD
9726 #150, F+, sound, bearing a superb SOTN strike of rare NYFM segmented cross fancy killer (Weiss RE-S4, Kirke 71-01-04-PIC) with only two covers reported in Weiss census over 4 days March 1871. Fantastic! SOLD
9768 #150, XF, sound, canceled by a VF+ clear and distinct strike of NYFM letter "H" in circle killer (Weiss RE-L3). This is a rare NYFM killer with only two covers reported by Kirke (73-01-09-PIC). Fabulous stamp and cancel! $100
9769 #161, fine, sound, two unpunched perfs at bottom, canceled by a VF-XF strike of rare NYFM star fancy killer (Weiss ST-MP2A, three known covers) clearly showing the shading of the star that is typically poorly evident on most strikes. $100
9770 #161, fine, sound, bearing an XF SOTN strike of fancy NYFM circled star-in-star killer (Weiss ST-MP1, Kirke 74-09-17-IGEO) with partial red exchange office postmark. Great eye appeal. $40

$35

9772 #161, VF+, sound, bearing a clear 50% strike of very scarce NYFM fouled anchor fancy killer (Weiss RE-E4, Kirke 74-12-23-PIC). Only eight covers listed in Weiss census. Great looking stamp and cancel. $85

$80

9773 #161, fine, sound SE pair, canceled by a fine SOTN strike of NYFM fancy circle of hearts killer (Weiss TR-W5, Kirke 74-03-30-IGEO). All multiples bearing well-struck NYFM killers are scarce and desirable. $40
